Capital One cloud migration

Commissioned upcycling artist Gabriel Dishaw to create works of art out of e-waste materials to promote Capital One’s migration from data centers to being a fully cloud based organization to be on display at people centers around the country.
The center of the project, Sue, a 6 foot tall winged horse, weighing 900 lbs., is the result of this creative upcycling and will be displayed at the Knolls Campus in Richmond VA.
Sue is named after the dinosaur Sue, one of the largest and best preserved Tyrannosaurus rex specimens.
The materials to create Sue were repurposed from a collection of discarded technology parts—including two pallets of cables, plugs, server pieces, and parts from various machines—removed from the last 3 data centers. The total amount of material removed and recycled included 62 tons of recycled steel and 41 tons of recycled copper.
The project won gold at the IHAF awards in 2021
